Strawberry Bags with Nutella – A Quick Pastry
Strawberries and chocolate-hazelnut spread make a delicious pairing, especially when enclosed in crisp, golden puff pastry. These quick strawberry bags require only 15 minutes of preparation and are an easy alternative to baking a full cake.
Recipe Details
- Preparation time: 15 minutes
- Baking time: 15 minutes
- Total time: 30 minutes
- Servings: 4
Ingredients
- 4 frozen puff pastry sheets, ready to bake, approximately 19 × 10 cm each
- 8 medium strawberries, about 160 g total, washed and sliced
- 4 tablespoons ground almonds
- 4 teaspoons Nutella
- 1 medium egg white, lightly beaten
- A little flour for the work surface
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 220°C using conventional top and bottom heat. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Place the frozen puff pastry sheets separately on a lightly floured work surface. Let them thaw slightly, then roll them out gently.
- Spread 1 to 1½ teaspoons of Nutella over each pastry sheet, leaving a border of approximately 2 cm. Brush away any excess flour first so the spread adheres properly.
- Sprinkle 1 tablespoon of ground almonds over the Nutella on each sheet. Divide the sliced strawberries evenly over the right half of each pastry sheet.
- Carefully brush the pastry borders with beaten egg white.
- Fold the left half of each sheet over the strawberry filling. Press the edges together with your fingers, then crimp them with a fork if desired.
- Cut several diagonal slashes into the top of each pastry and brush with the remaining egg white.
- Place the pastries on the prepared baking sheet. Bake on the second rack from the bottom for about 15 minutes, or until puffed and golden brown.
- Allow the strawberry bags to cool slightly before serving.
Serving Suggestion
Serve the pastries slightly warm as a quick dessert or an accompaniment to afternoon coffee. They are particularly convenient during strawberry season because the recipe uses only a small quantity of fresh fruit.
