Classic Rice Pudding
Preparation: 10 minutes
Cooking: 30 minutes
Total time: 40 minutes
Servings: 4
Ingredients
- 250 g short-grain rice suitable for rice pudding
- 1 litre whole milk, preferably 3.5% fat
- 3 tablespoons sugar
- 1 packet bourbon vanilla sugar
- 1 tablespoon butter
For serving
- Cinnamon and sugar, mixed to taste
- Optional: applesauce, cherries, berry compote or fresh fruit
Instructions
- Heat the butter in a large saucepan. Add the rice and cook it gently in the butter for about 3 minutes.
- Add the milk, sugar and vanilla sugar. For a stronger natural vanilla flavor, use the seeds of a vanilla bean instead of vanilla sugar.
- Bring the mixture to a boil while stirring occasionally. Watch the saucepan closely because milk can boil over quickly.
- Cover and simmer over the lowest heat for 15 minutes.
- Stir thoroughly, replace the lid and simmer for another 15 minutes, or until the rice is tender and creamy.
- Serve warm with cinnamon sugar and any optional fruit accompaniment.
