Berry Crumble Dessert

This warm berry crumble works with whatever berries are in season or available, including raspberries, blueberries, currants, blackberries, and strawberries. The balance of sweetness and tartness will vary with the fruit you choose.

The recipe makes four individual desserts. For serving, use four oven-safe ramekins or glasses approximately 10–11 cm in diameter.

Ingredients

Berry Mixture

  • 400 g mixed berries
  • 40 g brown sugar

Almond Crumble

  • 80 g flour
  • 40 g finely ground almonds
  • 60 g cold butter
  • 60 g white sugar
  • 60 g brown sugar
  • 1 knife-tip of cinnamon
  • 1 pinch of salt

Optional Toppings

  • Powdered sugar
  • Vanilla ice cream

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 200°C using conventional top and bottom heat.
  2. Wash the berries and drain them thoroughly.
  3. Combine the berries with 40 g of brown sugar.
  4. Divide the sweetened berries evenly among four oven-safe ramekins.
  5. Place all the crumble ingredients in a bowl. Work them together by hand until crumbs form, adjusting their size to your preference.
  6. Distribute the crumble evenly over the berries.
  7. Bake on the middle rack for 30–35 minutes, until the topping is golden and the fruit is hot and bubbling.
  8. Serve warm, optionally dusted with powdered sugar or topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Variations and Serving Notes

Any combination of berries can be used, so the dessert may be sweeter or more tart depending on the fruit. The crumble layer can also be made fine or chunky according to preference. Ground almonds and cinnamon give the topping additional flavor.
